Krista Watterworth cooks up design specialties; whether on TV or online, she’s got the right recipe

“Splurge and Save” may sound like an oxymoron, but to interior designer and TV personality Krista Watterworth, it just makes sense — dollars and sense.

“Splurge and Save” is her upcoming HGTV show, and in it, Watterworth takes one great item, which is usually the “splurge,” and designs a room around it using inexpensive items for the balance of the decor.

The splurge can be a chandelier in a dining room, a sofa in a living room, or a glamorous leather headboard in a bedroom.

“The concept is to create a space from one piece and make the rest of the room look worthy of that piece,” says Watterworth, who grew up in Southbury.

In a living room with an expensive new sofa, for example, Watterworth would make use of some of the client’s existing furniture. That’s the “save.”
