Spacey Design
According to PENELOPE GREEN and The New York Times, “High On Design” is surely a new euphemism for homes that look like they belong on the launchpad at the Kennedy Space Center. One in Guilford, Connecticut (my home state!) is known as “the spaceship down the street” to the neighbors whose most daring design decision is whether to buy plaid or striped wallpaper. Not that Connecticut residents aren’t design gurus but there is a rather conservative style to the traditional Connecticut home. So a spaceship inspired home living upon your street could be a bit disturbing.
Architect Wilfred J. O. Armster built this condo building in the great 80’s and when you take a sneak peak inside you can see that, although Guilford residents had a difficult time accepting this oddly styled space, a young family loves it’s lofty, open, mod feel. I’m green with envy! I went on a house hunt with my husband last month in Connecticut and if I saw one more piece of crown molding and traditional cherry cabinetry I was going to scream!
Is this a WOW! or WHAT THE HECK?!
