Room Recipe: Alfresco Zen Boudoir
I updated Jonathan and Kumiko's bedroom and transformed it into a serene, “zen-like” space…a welcoming retreat from their hectic lives. Jonathan said the new space feels “fresh and clean like green grass on a spring day.”

INSTRUCTIONS:
1. The calming Zen-like feel of Japanese style interiors is accomplished through the use of subdued colors, and natural fibers like silk are a must.
2. Bamboo, stone, and other natural materials provide the basis for a soothing color palette of brown, green, lavender, and other soft colors.
3. Silk screen printing has its origin in simple stenciling commonly used in Japan.
4. I created an accent wall to highlight the bed and add some glamor to the room by hanging replicated silver leaf wallpaper. This makes a huge impact adding luster and drama.
